April 2026 service date — Phil from ABLE AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING saved me from what appeared to be a costly and unnecessary furnace replacement recommendation from a Reliance technician. Reliance has performed yearly maintenance on my furnace for several years. During the most recent visit in February 2026, they replaced a faulty switch. Each technician who visited previously assured me that the furnace was working well and recommended continuing annual maintenance. Today, a Reliance technician arrived for another service visit. After being in my home for less than 15 minutes, he told me he had discovered a hole in the heat exchanger. He said replacing the heat exchanger would cost nearly as much as installing a new furnace, then called a Reliance sales representative. He shut off the gas without performing additional tests and provided paperwork for replacement options. The photo he showed me appeared to show only minor rust, so I told him I would prefer to get a second opinion. He suggested calling another Reliance technician with more experience, but I declined. He also saw a For Sale sign in front of my house and the used that to suggest that I could do the replacement and add the cost to the price of the house.. That didn’t sit well with me. I then contacted ABLE AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING. Phil arrived on time, listened carefully, and performed a thorough inspection. He conducted the appropriate tests, took photos, and showed me the results. He did not find any hole in the heat exchanger and detected no carbon monoxide leaks, contrary to what I had been told earlier.
